On 4 August 2009, a 22 person team of emergency response professionals assigned to the South Carolina National Guard's 43rd Civil Support Team (CST), participate in a chemical contamination exercise at McEntire Joint National Guard Base, South Carolina. The mission of the 43rd Civil Support Team (CST) / Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) is to support a local, state, or federal Incident Commander during national or man-made disasters as well as Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive weapons (CBRNE) events. The CST trains and is equipped to identify CBRNE agents, assess the current and projected consequences, advise on response measures, and assist with appropriate requests for additional support.
