The Air Sovereingty Alert mission begins at McEntire Joint National Guard Base with a ribbon cutting ceremony, 6 May 2011. This homeland defense mission returns to the Swamp Foxes of the 169th Fighter Wing and the South Carolina Air National Guard after a nearly thirty-year departure from a time when the unit flew the F-102 "Delta Dart" until 1974. In attendance are Maj Gen Garry Dean - 1st Air Force (AFNORTH) and Commander of the US North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, MG Robert Livingston - the South Carolina Adjutant General, MG Lester Eisner - the South Carolina Deputy Adjutant General, BG Bramhall, Brig Gen Grady Patterson - the South Carolina Assistant Adjutant General for Air and Brig Gen Scott Williams - the 169th Fighter Wing Commander.
