April Chaplain's Reflection Published March 27, 2014 By Capt. Christina Pittman 169th Fighter Wing MCENTIRE JOINT NATIONAL GUARD BASE, S.C. -- In 1814, Francis Scott Key looked out over a war struck Baltimore and saw the American Colonial flag still flying. In that hour of deliverance for America, a song was born, the "Star Spangled Banner." This month many of faith will give remembrance to God; some by song others by fasting. What stories of freedom do you know? For Jews and Christians, they will reflect on redemption and deliverance through faith. The Jews will observe Passover, a time to remember God delivering the nation of Israel from the captivity of Pharaoh in Egypt. The Israelites were given provisions by God to deliver the first born from death by spreading blood over their door frames. Through faith "pass over" ultimately did come to the Israelites in Egypt by freedom from slavery. Now they remember in hope to a future redemption from God as He did centuries ago. Christians, including the Catholic faith, remember the death and resurrection of their deliverer, Jesus Christ, from the captivity of sin. Christ's death on the cross was a means of redemption from death and His resurrection as hope to those who believe. Easter Sunday is when believers in Christ will celebrate triumph over death and the promise of eternal life in heaven with God. Through history there are many stories of nations being delivered. Some like America, in the battle with the British, as well as spiritual nations of faith. As you reflect this month on what personal deliverance can you give remembrance, take some time to ponder and remember in gratefulness.
