"Be Still"
Have you ever stood at the edge of a cliff or on the shoreline of a large body of water and experienced the vastness of this world? My favorite memories of traveling to the Blue Ridge Mountains are the experiences of driving to lookouts that offer amazing views of mountain peaks and valleys. Often the lookout was empty and it was the rustling of the leaves or a distant car passing below the parkway which broke the silence.

In those moments, the human reaction is to cry out; to hear our voice carry through the valley with hopes of hearing an echo. Other times we find ourselves enjoying the peace and stillness of such beauty. As I have become older, the latter is my favorite! Psalm 46:10 reads, “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth!” This verse proclaims God’s greatness but also invites us to “be still”.

The role of the citizen Airman can be difficult as we juggle between civilian careers and duty at McEntire. It is very easy to become distracted with the daily grind, performing maintenance on aircraft, completing computer-based training or packing your child’s lunchbox. Each day presents various challenges to each of us. My challenge for you is to find a place where you can enjoy the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:6), whether it is mountain lookouts or shorelines; and be still.
