McEntire JNGB hosts STEM Day education experiences for SC Youth Published April 6, 2019 By Senior Master Sgt. Edward Snyder 169th Fighter Wing MCENTIRE JOINT NATIONAL GUARD BASE, S.C. -- More than 2,000 South Carolina students and teachers with interests in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math received a day of focused-fun learning with Airmen and Soldiers from the South Carolina National Guard during a STEM Day event today. Public, private and home-schooled students from around the state participated in this unique experience and were provided up-close opportunities to perform hands-on learning and view the inner workings of aircraft and advanced-technology systems in an unforgettable setting of the 169th Fighter Wing’s aircraft hangar. “South Carolina is becoming an aerospace leader and these students will be the future leaders in the industry,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Jonathan Thompson, McEntire JNGB STEM Day coordinator. “It is our desire and hope that our STEM Day event will build excitement toward these critical career fields.” The SCNG partnered with STARBASE Swamp Fox and the Air Force Association - Columbia Chapter to spark interest and excitement in STEM-based careers. McEntire JNGB STEM Day was a one-day event for students of all ages, with a focus on middle and high school-aged students, to enhance their education while learning about aeronautics, weather, robotics and much more. The SCNG plans to make this a yearly STEM Day event for future S.C. students interested in discovering exciting and challenging career opportunities.
